XP DNS Resolution

XP Home will not resolve DNS through a dial-up connection. Connects to remote networks just fine. Can ping ip addresses but will not ping by name. If the name is placed in hosts with ip, the name can be pinged. ipconfig shows proper dns servers, gateway, domain suffix, etc. TCP/IP has been “reset”. No luck. Help!
