XP Does not boot

When I turn on my PC running Windows’s XP Pro, it gets to the XP screen right before it asks you to press Ctrl Alt Del. After this the screen goes blank and the lights on the monitor flash. The computer is still running but nothing else happens and you cannot reboot without pressing the reset button. Help please!
