XP Drive Swapping

I have a friend with 2 Dells loaded with Windows XP. He wants to swap the Hard drives between the systems because he needs the faster drive in his system. I’m assuming that since he has WinXP on both drives, he cannot just swap them between the 2 systems. Is there a painless way for him to accomplish this?
