xp firewall

By eagleabj ·
I have xp home edition with an internet connection via dsl. When I go to the network connections screen and look at the properties for my high-speed internet connection, there is no advanced tab to access the ICF. Is there a setting that I am missing in order to access the ICF to turn it on or off?

XP home does not have some of the features of XP Pro, and I think the firewall is one of them.

Anyway, the firewall built in to XP is NOT very effective.

You would be better off downloading and running the free version of Zone Alarm.

XP Home Edition does have the ICF software available, you can view the Microosft guide to setting it up here: (remove any spaces)

However, I would have to agree with the first answer - ICF isn't a very full-featured tool. In fact, all ICF does is monitor traffic one way, coming into your PC, not the other way, so if you got infected with something like a Blaster-type virus, or anything that turns your system into a zombie PC, ICF will let it send as much traffic as it wants to without notfiying you or stopping it. You would be better off using something like Zone Alarm:

Hope this helps.
