XP Guest Account Issue

We recently networked two XP Professional stand-alone workstations and shared folders on each to the other for all users. For some reason the guest account was automatically opened up. I disable guest and users cannot get to the shared folders on the other workstations. Pls help. I have to lock down per DoD requirements.
