XP Help and Support

By Raoul01 ·
Win XP Pro Sp1. When selecting Help and Support from the Start menu, the hourglass on the cursor flashes on and off a couple of times, but Help does not get fired up. It used to work - what must I do?

Check that the 'Help and Support' service is running via Services.msc.

Help and Support Service is marked as "Started". I even retsrated, stopped and started the service - still no go!

Hi

I have exactly the same problem. I tried finding informatio about it on the MS KnowledgeBase but had no luck.

What I did discover, purely by accident, is that I can run the Help and Support centre by opening Control Panel, and selecting Help and Support from the Help menu.

Does not solve the problem but does provide a work-around.

Hope this helps

On the XP distribution CD there is a directory
\support\tools. I ran the setup in that directory, which installed support tools on my system. Lo and behold, help and support works again from the start menu!!!!!!
