XP home edition.

I have recently upgraded from 98 series 2 to XP home.When attempting to turn off the computer the software get to ‘Windows is closing down’…then stops. I then have to turn off at the tower!!Also, when downloading a Cannon ‘driver’ to make my FB630U flatbed scanner opperable,I cannot get the rotten thing to work!!Any suggestions???
