    XP home no domain

    Locked

    by issakeitala ·

We have a domain. We just installed XP home version on one of our PCs. I can’t get it to join the domain. From the network tasks, when I choose setup a home or small office network, it ends up asking me for a workgorup name. Ther seems to be no option for joining a domain. What am I doing wrong?

You are not doing anything wrong, XP Home version can never join any domain. You must use XP Professional.

BTW, when you use XP Professional and join a NT / AD domain, Fast User switching is disabled by design.

your not doing anything wrong. What is wrong is that XP Home can not join a domain. Only XP Pro can. This is a built in limitation of XP Home.

For a reasonably priced “OEM” of XP Pro, Visit Newegg.com. $143.00 plus tax and shipping. NOTE: this is OEM version not retail packaging.

      Hello,

Unfortunately, everyone here is correct. XP Home was never intended to join domains. This OS is strictly a home version. You will need to upgrade to Pro to be able to join a domain.
