A great easy to understand description of the differences was in the 11\26\2001 issue of WinXPnews E-Zine which can be found here: http://www.winxpnews.com/subscription.cfm?id=WXP (remove spaces from address when copied to your browser) Search for the issue titled "WinXPnews: Data Death." This is a great newsletter for either XP user!! Also, a good site to see at Microsoft is: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q304040 That site explains user rights, which are more like the NT OS's than the 9X\Me OS's. Best Wishes choosing your new OS! These features are in the professional version and NOT in the home edition: Remote Desktop, Offline Files and Folders, Encrypting File System, Granular Access Control, Ability to join a Windows NT or Windows 2000 domain(a must if you are on a network!), Support for Group Policy and Roaming Profiles, Software Installation and Maintenance, Installation using Remote Installation Services (RIS), Multi-language support, Multiprocessor support, Multiple Monitors support, Backup and dynamic disks, Upgrade from Windows NT/Windows 2000, Advanced networking support.
They are essentially the same OS, except that the Professional version has enhanced capabliities for logging into domains, etc... Both of them can run the same apps, games, etc...
If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended.
