Does it work properly at other times?

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to xp home

If not what type of NB is it?

Have you got a clear space under it to prevent some type of material being sucked up by the CPU Fan/s and blocking the air intakes?

When you try something with a High CPU Loading does it shut down?

Can you hear the CPU Fan/s running at all?

More to look at

Hal makes some good points. But it also may be a shared .dll file that became corrupt, or a virus. If you can get into safe mode, does the virus scan work?
If not, try running sfc.exe /scannow, have your XP cd ready.

It It may be rebooting on error

by Kiltie In reply to xp home

XP is prone to do that, and is the default, I believe, the problem is you can get in a perpetual loop.

For more info:

Boot into Safe Mode (hit F8 when booting, several times) and choose Safe Mode.

Right click My computer, click Properties, select Advanced tab
In Startup and Recovery, click Settings, make sure that Automatically Restart is cleared

This won't solve your problem, but may allow you to see the error message, instead of continually rebooting.

Post back with the details, please.
