I am trying to use Windows XP Pro in the schools computer lab for the students to use. I want to make a standard profile for each student to use. I have about 140 students that have their own user name and password. The reason for this is to allow each student to have a personal folder on the student server.
I want all students to have the same exact icons on the desktop, installed printers, Internet settings, desktop wallpaper, etc.
I know XP wants a profile for each user, for a lab setting this isn?t realistic by mid year each system could have up to 140 profiles
I batted around the idea of roaming profiles. I would create one generic one and make it a mandatory profile to prevent the students from changing it and assign it to each student in the Active Directory under the profile section. However this isn?t working.
I have created a folder on the server called profiles set it to be shared and security to the students group set the owner to be the administrators group. The following commands are under each student listed in the AD: Profile path \\SERVER NAME\SUPPORT\PROFILES\STUDENTS the same for the connect to Z: \\SERVER NAME\SUPPORT\PROFILES\STUDENTS
I created a profile using a students log in, the profiledid go to the server and is stored on the server. I can actually go to the server and see the profile itself. However, when I log in with any other student with the same profile path windows XP creates a new local profile and is not taking the roaming profile.
Am I missing something?
Is this a lost hope?
Is there a way to tell XP to use a single profile for a group?
