Well, I’ve spent the last 2 weeks trying to sort this problem out, and I can’t find anything which works yet.
The problem is this:
I’ve recently built a new system (Intel E8500 1333MHz FSB, 2GB DDR3 1333MHz FSB, WD 5000 500GB Drive and a 8800GTX) the XP install will get as far as the GUI part of the install, but will instantly hang there. I think it’s an issue with the card support in XP (hanging at the GUI tends to suggest that…). I’m using a SP2 CD (SP2 is needed for PCI-E) and I’ve tried a vanilla SP2 disc, and ones slipstreamed with all the drivers I could find for my hardware, nothing works. I don’t have another PCI-E card, no AGP slot, and I don’t have the cash to buy another one. Has anyone come across this problem before ? Any suggestions ? I’m at the stage now where if I can’t sort it soon, I’m going to have to take it to a computer shop and get them to do it. I’d rather not do that… So, any suggestions ?
