XP install hangs 33% installing devices

By vince.shimala ·
When I try to install Windows XP on a PC the installation process gets to 33% installing devices and just sits there and will not proceed any further. The system is not locked since the install screen message continues to change and I can move the cursor around the screen. I have tried 2 different installation CD's & formated the hard drive 3 times but it still hangs at the 33% portion of the installation process each time. This PC did have XP on it previously.
Thanks, Vince

Is this an old computer that you are updating or a new one?

If it's an old one then the most likely cause of the problem is that you have a piece of hardware that isn't compatible with XP and this is preventing the installation from completing.

I had a similar problem with a P4 just after SP1 became available while the computer was built and running XP there was a DVD ROM that wasn't compatible with the Service Pack.

I agree with Hal that the problem is most like an incompatibility. Remove any cards you have installed and try to install XP again. If it installs then put each back one at a time to see which one is the problem.
