Locked

XP Install

By a_tank ·
I am trying to install an OS (XP) onto a hard drive. About 25% into it, the process stops, saying the "dmio.sys is corrupted". I have reformated the hard drive, even tried a low-level format, and still no luck. This PC was running ME, when it started crashing a lot. I tried to do a restore witht the factory discs, and it will lock up at about 80% complete. Any help would be appreciated.

XP Install

is this a new hard drive? can you give us the computer model number? motherboard brand? hard disk size, type, model number? it sounds like win2k is having trouble with your hard drive or controller. like you either have bad sectors on your drive or your drive is incompatible somehow...needs BIOS update maybe. the low-level format may not have been a good idea...did you lock out bad sectors during it?
try this:
1) make sure BIOS level anti-virus is disabled during the os install
2) run chkdsk /f /r on the drive, using the recovery console you can see how to get to it when you start the install from the CD
3) check the computer mfg website to see if you can verify the system is compatible with windows 2000.
4) flash the computers BIOS to latest version...
5) create a 4GB partition and install to that.
hope this helps some. good luck...

If you are installing from a genuine XP disc then the problem is usually a hardware problem or Bios problem. Try removing everything else except the memory and the Video card.....if that still doesn't work then it's the bios. Boot into Bios...nextfind the default setting set it back to default....this had work for me a lot of time.

Certainly sounds like its having problems with your disk or morelikley the controller card. If you have anything extra in terms of controller card or scsi adapter - have the latest drivers on hand.

Also make sure you try a regular XP cd - rather than anything OEM.

good luck..

i'm sorry to say, it sounds like your HDD is dead, try another disk
had the same issue from ME--XP yesterday after hours of investigation it was the HDD it was getting on a bit, all the extra work sent it over the egde.
