XP installation problems….non standard

by machinehead4eva . Updated 18 years, 4 months ago

Hi all, question. I recently started to rebuild my Dell dimension 5150. Unfortunately my InternalDVD-rom is faulty….so I started the installation from a USB-CD-rom Externally. Installtion proceeded fine…..however 40mins later I find a new partition of XP….with all my old “Program files” still there on the HDD.

No problems i thought….I’ll boot from the XP CD again and this time….Delete the partition and create a new one. However I cant do this as I get a message about setup files….blah blah.

So….I get my fathers 98 boot CD….and run Fdisk to delete the C: partition…hoping that this would solve the problem. NO…….

Now when I boot from the USB External CD-rom drive….setup starts to proceed….and then Hangs up at “windows setup”…..after a while (2mins) the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH appears….

Stuck…stuck….stuck

Please anyone had this before????

LG
