XP internet sharing

By lolabugsbrokenheart ·
got 1 server and 3 clients, all in XP pro, in rg45 network cable and an 8 ports switch hub, same PC specification (p4),network setup successfully (same workgroup, ICS checked), can play lan games, share data (sometimes can't map network drive and showing can't reconnect network drives on startup) but can't share printer and internet connection even already setup with the home network wizard and automated everything excep the server 192.168.0.1 but still can't work until i installed wingate, worked for 4 days (the internet connection sharing) but then not working again even with wingate cause the client can't detect server but still can play lan games and share data and even in the client taskbar detected server internet connection. the server can access internet through dial up. reformatted and reinstalled everything but still.... no, its not virus. any tips?

I agree that it is most likely not a hardware problem.

One thing that I was not clear on from your post, and a common misconception, is that you ONLY install ICS on the computer with the active internet connection.

For the other computers in the work group, you use the ICS client disk, which basically verifies that you have a valid network set up.

Another thing to check is the firewall settings on each computer.
You need to enable access for the network in order to share the connection and map drives.

Get a 4 port router that way you don't have to use ICS. The computers will connect to the internet through the router. You didn't mention what type of internet connection you have.
