XP Invalid Key

By hoopcat ·
I recently had a hdd crash, so I replaced the hard drive, formatted, and installed my copy of windows on the new drive. When asked to activate, it says it is invalid key. I know for a fact it is a valid key.
I try to activate thru internet, and it says it can't at this time, to call the telephone number and activate.
I don't have a home phone, or a cell phone, so that option is a wash.
Does anyone know any way around this?
I only have 7 more days to activate.
By the way it is XP Home with service pack 2.

You receive an error message after you enter the product key when you try to install Windows XP
Error message when you install Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Service Pack 2 (SP2): "The product key used to install Windows is invalid"

You have a copy of Windows which validated at one time, but now it will not. Usually, this is caused by a series of numbers being reported as stolen/counterfeited after the initial validation has taken place.

In this case, your only chance of ever getting validated is to call Microsoft. Borrow a phone if you have to. They'll tell you either it will fly and fix it or it won't fly.
