XP Keeps Rebooting

By djcjrich ·
I upgraded an HP with a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM. When I restart, XP begins to load with the white line across the bottom and then the screen goes black and the computer power cycles and restarts again. This keeps happening. Why?

The problem you are seeing is that you have just replaced the motherboard with one that is not alike (system board, built in video, graphics, bus, type of board, etc...)

Sometimes, windows 2000 and XP can automatically identify the new parts / features and install them, however, if the board is that different, it will be in a constant loop.

3 things...

1. install old board or slave drive and backup your data and info.

2. install new board, re-install xp over previous which will load a default system for that new board. re-install all.

3. or... format drive, install all from scratch, copy back old data.

Good luck
