Was this system part of a Domain at a Business?

It sounds as if it was and it is looking for the Domain Server and prompting you to Enter the Password for it to Open the Cached Domain Protocols.

You have to enter the Users Password to open the system.

Also do not remove it from the domain as the Network Admin may report this to the Boss and remove the persons who's workstation it is from employment at that company.

Network Setting Screen you must have told it that it was part of a Domain.

You can either do another In Place/Upgrade install by following Method 2 here

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/292175

And setting the Network correctly or enter the set password and then open the Network Setup Wizard and run that to set the required settings.
