try another user login.
try safe mode. if you can get in, My Computer/Properties/Advanced/startup and recovery/uncheck box says 'restart automtcly on error'

If safe mode and another login fails to produce any difference.... then look at hardware solutions (systemboard problem?)

Antivirus program / version may be helpful :)
Its possible you have Sasser or a type variant.
Start in safe mode and check your registry settings
start -> run "regedit"
HKEYCURRENTUSER/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/run
and HKEYLOCALUSER/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/run

Check whats there :)

also run "msconfig" and choose a selective startup and search through the startup items and check for "dodgies" It sounds more likely a virus / program glitch than anything hardware related, though I have had a similar problem when my sisters HSF fell off her intell 2 ghz

if you are using a pirated copy of win xp (non corp files crack) then update to sp1 that is exactly what happens, there is no fix except for formating the drive and reinstalling windows.

I have the same situation that I can?t seem to find a solution to, I recently had a Motherboard die on me and I went out and upgraded to an ASUS A7N8X-E. Anyway when I plugged the hard drive back in and booted the computer. It boots all the way up to where I can see the XP Pro. Boot Screen and then it restarts and asks for Safe mode Screen. I?ve tried all the Safe modes and Last Known Good Configuration and nothing is working. I?ve even gone in and tried to restore the MBR. I didn?t get too far because I am unable to backup the current MBR and the drive is using Partition Magic 7. So I?m worried about loosing the other Partitions if I go that route. Anyone have an idea as to what is going on and how can I fix it?
