XP Lost Thumbnails After KB912919

I seem to have lost the ability to display thumbnails in XP Windows Explorer after applying security patch KB912919. I haven’t uninstalled any applications recently. The option to display thumbnails still shows under “View”, but a placeholder rather than the thumbnail is displayed.
