XP machine and NT server

By capri ·
Not sure if I'm asking in the right forum, but here goes! One of the networked computers, running XP O/S, must be manually connected to the computer each time it boots. Our other networked computers run Win98 and the logon script executes automatically on boot. What do I need to do to automate the logon script on the XP machine? Thanks for any help/suggestions!

XP machine and NT server

The WinXP user is probably logging in to the local WinXP system. That way he is not able to execute the loginscript that the win98 computers/users can.
You will need to add the WinXP computeraccount to the WinNT4 server. This is how to do it :

Start-Settings-Control Panel -> System

Select tab 'Computer Name'

Select button 'Change'

Select radio-button : 'Member of Domain'

Fill in your WinNT4 Domain name and select 'OK'

The system asks for a user with administrative right, eg : administrator, and password.

After this is done, you will be informed that the computer is added to the domain. You will need to reboot the WinXP system. After rebooting, make sure you login to the domain and not the local computer. (If you onlysee the icons with names, do a control-alt-delete, so you can change the local computeraccount to the domain. After this the loginscript should also run on your WinXP system

Good luck!
