This problem occurred after updating my sound card software. I tried a system restore same problem, then I tried to disable all start up items related to my sound card in MSconfig startup, still does not boot. Then I dissabled all items in startup and it still did it. So I shut the pc off and waited. When I tried again it booted fine. It is very repetitive if restarted it hangs while loading my desktop startup items in my profile. IF I shut it off it restarts fine. I do have a windows backup file, but have never used it. Its a few weeks old. How safe is the restore of the system state files with windows restore from a backup
