XP Magic Superbloat???

By maxtram ·
I recently completed an xp build. Then I downloaded and installed SP2 (I use dialup.Whew!). My disk is a paultry 6Gb and I don't have much on there yet. So why has 5Gb been used? I know this seems like a general question but maybe someone has an idea.

well with my system which is XP SP2, with the O/S installed on it's own partition and all other programs are installed in another partition, I use up 10 GB of space on a 15 GB partition [but I gotta admit that I've got some junk in the my documents and my pictures folder on the C: partition]. Programs that you install also install stuff [.dlls etc ]in the C: partition reguardless of where the bulk of the files are stored. Got enough programs installed and it adds up. Got a lot of picture files and other documents stored in the default My Documents/My Pictures folder and they take up room.

Compress the i386's at least 400MB.

If you like living on the edge, delete it.

Otherwise, do a disk cleanup, defrag, and run something like System Mechanic and you can get some of that back. Also, delete unneeded windows components.

You can get XP down to maybe 2GB or less.

Come On! XP on a 6gig drive?

20 gig hard drive. $30.00 shipped

Ghost or Partition Magic the partition over.

How much is your time and data worth.
