1) make sure there is user account on the xp box with same username and password as you use to log onto that box... 2) make sure subnet mask and workgroup name are same as other computers... 3) try winipcfg /release all /renew all
First, as stated, check that your IP settings are EXACTLY the same, wrong mask and no go. Check that you have user accounts and passwords that match for what are on the other machines on each machine, and also check your xp system for services, there is a service called SAP advertising protocol that needs to be up and running for some reason, without it some networks wont know it is there.
Also check that the machine names and network name are typed into each machnie the exact same way. i have found that if you have caps lock on whilst typing them in it ensures that they are all in capitals, some systems you can type in lower case and it shows capitals but stores lower cas and some protocol are case seneitive.
after that if it doesn't work take 30 second break and scream.
If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended.
