XP not opening c drive

I have looked at a system which will not boot after a full recovery attemp…it’s an HP XT963
PC,supposedly running winxp-home.

“nldr is compressed
press control-alt-del to restart” is the error message we’re getting,however the system will notreboot after a control-alt-delete…

any takers?
