XP not recognizing memory upgrade

By mikcmayo ·
My Laptop had 384MB ram which XP recognizes I then upgraded to 1gb the bios sees it but xp still shows 384MB. when I switch to another HD with a different Resident XP OS it sees the 1GB

and I see a marked improvement but when the original HD with the original XP OS is put back it again only shows 384 MB this also is what is showing in the task manager allocations

my on board video is set at 32MB RAM and is not sharing the Ram

I have already tried to do a repair of the OS to no Avail

any help would be greatly appreciated

OK as you have this working properly on a different installation of Windows the obvious thing is that your main Copy of XP is corupt and needs to be reinstalled. As you have already said that you have another HDD that you can put into this NB I would just copy all of your data including Favourites & E-mail to that drive and then wipe the drive and do a reinstall of Windows from your Install/Recovery CD.

When that is finished instal an AV program and update it before you log onto the MS Update service and update Windows. Once you have finished doing this you can then install all of your SIftware and transfrer your Data Back across to your HDD and copy them into place for the Documents and Favourites and Import the Address Book & E-Mail.
