XP on 2 Drives..How do I delete 2nd?

By inherentiyevil ·
I recently got a used computer (hand me down) with 2 internal hard drives. When you boot the PC, it asks you to choose which version of XP you wish to run. Both versions are XP Pro. The C drive is the main and I would like to remove the 2nd occurrance of XP from the F drive. How would I go about this without totally harshing the PC altogether?

Follow these steps

by abbasarif In reply to XP on 2 Drives..How do I ...

there are many ways for this but folow the given below easy steps.

1. Right click on my computer and click Properties.
2. click on Advanced Tab.
3. click on "Startup and Recovery" settings button.
4. then you will see your Default Operating system list. you can edit this list by clicking EDIT button. a notpad file will be open when you will click on EDIT button. this is your BOOT file.
the format of the file is given below.

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

you can delete any boot record from here.

i hope you can now delete the boot selection record. if dont feel free to contact me.

I haven't tried removing the 2nd XP yet, but I just wanted to thank you for your reply. I'll try your suggestions this weekend when I have some time with no one in the house to disturb me. LOL
