XP Options

I have a customer with a new XP PC. His old XP machine would open a window asking what you wanted to use to open the data - or what task you wanted to do like copy or print.

Does anyone know where this setting is to turn it on and off???

It sounds like, based off your description, that the old XP install was infected with a virus that targeted the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command portion of the Registry.
The Default value should equal ""%1" %*" but what some viruses do is they put themselves in there, so that any time a .EXE file is opened, the virus itself is launched.
THEN, when the virus is cleaned/removed by antivirus software, this piece of the Registry is not fixed.
So,I would look there and see if this is the case.
But I could also be wrong. The exact wording of the error, as well as full descriptions of any error boxes, would have been helpful.

Nope - it isn't a virus program. After looking online for more info. I found it is a setting in the registry to enable or disable the autoplay/autorun feature in windows. Thanks for the suggestion though.
