    xp or vista?

    when i reformat..

    it shows vista..

    what is the OS?…

      sounds more like you installed Vista over XP…
      what do you mean by ‘i reformat’
      ‘it shows’ – what shows, where
      can you not tell what OS is running when its booted?

      Restore ro Recover?

      It sounds more like you used the restore or recover function on a name brand OEM computer, and the restore image was Vista rather than XP.

      Was this system downgraded to XP either by the manufacture or by a support tech?

      It would be mighty sneaky if the restore image on an OEM downgraded system was still Vista.
