XP Ownership over other platforms

Hi there having a problem with an Access 2000 Database when using a mixed platforms over a peer to peer network. The Access 2000 Database is being served on a Win98SE machine, whilst the XP machine is being used as a client. The problem we are experiencing is that the database seems to be corrupting. Our software developers say that the problem is that XP is fighting over ownership of the database and does not like the fact of the win98 machine being the Server. Is this true? Is Xp so childish?Is there a fix?
