XP Ownership over other platforms

By support ·
Hi there having a problem with an Access 2000 Database when using a mixed platforms over a peer to peer network. The Access 2000 Database is being served on a Win98SE machine, whilst the XP machine is being used as a client. The problem we are experiencing is that the database seems to be corrupting. Our software developers say that the problem is that XP is fighting over ownership of the database and does not like the fact of the win98 machine being the Server. Is this true? Is Xp so childish? Is there a fix?

Yours worryingly

Alan

XP Ownership over other platforms

I would sooner suspect that you have different versions of Access on the 2 machines, and that is the root of the problem.

I don't know if you can set Access XP to default to save changes as the older format.

If not, I would upgrade the W98 machine to Access XP. Or, downgrade the XP machine to the same version of Access that you are running on the W98 PC.

You may even need to run Access in "compatability" mode on the XP system.
