Built me a nice machine. Was really proud of myself as this is the first time. Well, I wanted to be able to use 4G of memory with my new MB and CPU (Quad). XP Pro will not recognize 4G of memory. I like XP Pro and am very comfortable with it since that’s what we used at work (just retired). I haven’t heard a lot of good things about Vista so I thought XP Pro 64-bit was my best option. Loaded the OS and everything was great………….until I tried to install Norton 2008 Internet Security. Will not install. There is a 64 folder on the install disk. Finally found out that it’s for VISTA 64!!! Norton didn’t make it compatible with XP Pro 64. So then I tried loading all of my other apps but much to my demise they wouldn’t install either. So now I am stuck running to PCs. One that has all of my software (my old PC) and my new PC which is fast but is limited in what I can do.
Now to my questions………
I am unprotected on my 64-bit machine because I don’t have any compatible virus protection/internet protection software. Is there any out there? My Googling hasn’t been very productive and I have been really busy lately to even try.
I thought I could run 32 bit apps in “32 bit mode”. But that doesn’t seem possible if I can’t even install the ##%&@!!+**&!!! software!!
My printer is not 64-bit compatible. Can you believe that. So weh They couldn’t make the 64-bit OS backwards compatible with printers (and perhaps other hardware)? I have Googled for printers with 64-bit compatibility and came up empty. So evidently I don’t know the correct search term(s).
Any advice would be appreciated!
