XP Pro and Realtek AC 97 audio soundcard

By valente2k6 ·
Ive just installed xp pro on my computer i recently just updated to it to vista and i am restricted on some games that i play so i installed XP Pro on my computer and i noticed i needed to install the soundcard drivers so i installed and it crashed, just restarted itself, so i tried again and the same happened so i downloaded the 3.99 drivers and the same happened, then i googled it but nothing so i went back to XP and tried using the XP Hardware Setup but it did the same at the very end of the setup, thing is the drivers installed on vista. So is there anybody that can put a little light on the subject?

I think you need XP drivers - not Vista drivers...

Vista drivers are NOT compatible with XP.

You should return to whatever drivers you were using when you originally ran the system with XP.

"I have been using XP drivers I'm not that stupid"

Well, Sonny, here's your REAL problem AND I QUOTE:

"i noticed i needed to install the soundcard drivers so i installed and it crashed, just restarted itself, so i tried again and the same happened so i downloaded the 3.99 drivers and the same happened, then i googled it but nothing so i went back to XP and tried using the XP Hardware Setup but it did the same at the very end of the setup, thing is the drivers installed on vista" - UNQUOTE.

So, if the drivers installed on Vista, just how in **** do you think you are using XP drivers?

Who is stupid now?

I obviously used Vista drivers to work on Vista.
And i have 3 Partitions 1 has Vista on and another has XP on
The Vista drivers installed fine on Vista, but the XP drivers are crashing my XP right at the end of the installation
But doesnt matter now as i am buying a new Computer

That you upgraded the computer and it came loaded with Vista and not that you changed the OS from XP to Vista on the same computer you have to locate some XP Drivers which will be the AC97 drivers for the Realtek Sound Card. Which are located here as Version 6.80
