XP Pro can’t use windows update

Have an XP pro SP1 pc on the network, and out of the box I cannot perform windows update. I can connect to the site, but takes a long time on the “Checking for the latest version of Windows Update Software” screen then gives the error “The connection to this Internet site took longer than the allotted time” with error 0x80072ee2. I’ve tried checking “Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections, also directed it to the DNS servers on the domain (Win2k DC’s and domain). Other XP workstations do not have this problem. Help!
