XP Pro - File Sharing

By john ·
Is there any way to share the Program Files folder as well as the Documents and Settings folder across a network? Any ideas would appreciated.

Right click on the folder. Select properties. Select sharing enable it and give it a share name.

It doesn't allow that for the Program Files folder and the Documents and Setting Folder. Even if I give permissions through safe mode once I boot it up normally it rejects it. It says that they are Windows System folders and connot be shared.

Funny, it works for me!! Maybe there is a policy preventing it. Open MMC and look through the group policies

First you must be logged on in normal mode with a log on account that has 'administrator' authority.

Then you just right click on the folder, select 'Sharing and Security', and activate the 'Share this Folder' radio button. Then use the 'Apply' button and then the 'OK' button.

NB This will activate a share that will allow 'everyone' to 'read only', if you want them to be able to execute or change files you will need to change the permissions.

After using the 'Apply' button but before the 'OK' button select the 'Permissions' button to open a sub-window, change the permissions by clicking on the wanted options to make a'tick' appear in the box, then use the 'Apply' button, use the 'OK' buttom, then use the 'Apply' and 'OK' on the 'Sharing' window.
