XP Pro nightmare

By caddywompus81 ·
First of hi, this is my first question. I am completely new to XP, but very familiar with all previous OS's. I recently wiped and upgraded a 3 year old Gateway (AMD Anthlon 800) to XP Pro. Installation went fine....but i am constantly getting error messages caused by my USB ports...i don't know why, and its quite aggrevating. Any help would be wonderful...thank you in advance

The first thing to do after installing XP, is to connect to Microsoft, and install the critical and security updates.

Service Pack 1 is up to you. Since this is a new install, I would go ahead and give it a try.

Next, check with Gateway for XPsupport for your PC.
If they do not have driver files for XP, then you need to identify your hardware, and download the reference drivers from the chip manufactures.

For a 3 year old Athlon system, you likely have an AMD or VIA chip-set.

Belarc Adviser www.belarc.com can provide a fairly detailed list of whats on your system.
