xp pro- No icons, no start menu, no task manager, no right cick

By impalass412 ·
I've read all the other posts and those solutions wont work for me:
If i restart in safe mode, everything is fine, if i retart is safemode with net- it logs me off because i now have to "activate windows"
I "repaired, windows installation" hoping it would fix everything but it made it worse, now i have to activate windows. If i click yes activate now, nothing happens.

Maybe more detail can you understand: I was getting "my documents" pop up on every bootup, i googled and said to change registry etc, i did EXACTLY what it said and that caused my no icons no start and no task manager.

Now the only way i can access everything normal is in safemode, please help.

Jose

to confirm registry values:

by impalass412 In reply to Then that would beg the q ...

It stated if my registry values under hklocalmcahine\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon userinit don't match c:windows\system32\explorer.exe, to change them and match them. (I'm replying with my cell phone, pardon my sloppyness). I have confirmed with many posts the values are exact. Still same problem.

All ok in safemode but at normal startup still same prob and no commans help nothing happens.. thanks

It needs to read this way

C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,

Don't forget the comma at the end.
Also scan the userinit file that is in the sys32 path. If you are unsure of it search the system and pull on from a cache location.

thats what it says

The values are exact. I've even copied the userinit file from another system and replaced it. Still no problem.

I'm pretty sure this is a unique situation because since I have to activate windows It logs me off everything.

What my last resort is to; back up my files from safemode and just reinstall xp.

Thank you very much for your help

Couple of downloads

Use another system and download MalwareBytes and combofix.
Run malwarebytes (full scan) in safe mode.
If it wont start, rename the mbam.exe file to something like 12mbam.exe
After it has completed, reboot back into safe mode.
Disable any antivirus (to include services) and allow combofix to run.
Reboot into regular windows. You may also need to check your Internet Options to insure that a fake proxie is not setup.
