Aloha!
This should really be simple but i just can’t seem to understand what is happening here. I think my biggest problem was i never had the chance to really work out the differences between permissions handling of NT4 to Win2k and beyond.
Scenario: XP Pro system partitioned with one for Images from Drive Image (like I:\Images – where Images is the folder where the .pqi files are created and stored. This is all NTFS formated.
I boot up to DOS, run Drive Image and create the image file in above location.
Question: How can i setup the permissions for this folder (starting from the I:\ drive letter) so that after i boot up I can have certain permissions assigned to these files?
I don’t fully understand how the inherited process works and since these files are created in DOS would it be different? Couldn’t i setup the folder to inherit certain permissions so that after boot/logon whatever files located in that folder would be assigned these permissions? No matter what i do now, after bootup the only permission for the file is SYSTEM. I have disabled Admin shares but i think that doesn’t have anything to do with this issue or does it? – please read on.
Another question:
On another system setup similar (except admin shares are enabled) where the files have also only one permission “Everyone” with full control. Now i have actually removed “Everyone” from the I:\ drive and yet where did it come from? I have allowed the inherited permissions to go to the Image folder yet “Everyone” isn’t there. How does this happen? I have checked both systems and it appears that the permissions are the same.
Hoping that someone can help me sort this out and i thank everyone in advance for any help!
