XP Pro repair

By galehickey2 ·
Have XP PRO which I upgraded to SP1 thru an internet download. Have a AMD processor with 512 mb and cable. Was necessary to do a repair from my XP Pro CD but now I can no longer access the internet. Any ideas. Thank you.

can you ping your router?
can you ping your isp's dns server?
can you browse by ip address but not by url?
is xp's built-in firewall on or off?
do you have any firewall software installed like zonealarm or norton firewall or norton internet security? maybe you could try uninstalling and reainstalled that.

Have you tried ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew yet, in the C:prompt? Try this as well as checking your network connection in the control panel. XP has a repair connection option if you right click on your LAN icon and selecting "REPAIR CONNECTION". ALso make sure the cable is attached properly, and there is no issues with your cable service as their are notorious for having issues once in awhile and people think it is their system.
Another thing is to unplug the cable modem and wait about two minutes and then plug it back in, this will reset the modem.
Hope this helps.......

NOTE* that is the cable modems A/C power not the cable itself.
