XP Pro shutdown

By KLK ·
I recently installed Windows XP Pro on a Compaq 5304 with 128MB RAM, running a CyrixII 233Mhz. Everything installed just fine, but when I want to shut it down, it no longer powers off on it's own. It brings me to the screen "It is now safe to turnoff your computer". What can I do to it so that it shuts down the computer automatically? Any suggestions would be great help. Thanks in advance.

In device manager, enable APM.
This may be a "hidden" option, so you may have to click on view, and click display hidden devices.

Hi,

In addition to TheChas' suggestions... Have you installed Roxio's Easy CD Creator 5?

This is the single biggest XP shutdown problem cause. If you have, then uninstall it and re-install it without the DirectCD components.

Follow Roxio's methos for installation (minus the DirectCD) from...

http://www.roxio.com/en/support/ecdc/xpup.jhtml

(remove spaces from the above URL)

Cheers,
Tim.

Hi Tim...
Nope, I didn't install EasyCD Creator. I had a major compatibility problem with that the first time I installed WinXP. Nero seems to work well with XP, so that is now my choice "burning utility".
Want to thank you for the reply!!
