Hi everyone,
I’m trying to get my XP desktop to access my Vista laptop shares, but I get that “access denied” error all the time. I’ve browsed this forum and others for solutions without any success. Could someone please help me?
Quick network profile:
desktop:
os = XP Pro SP 2
connection = wired connection
firewall = windows xp firewall with file & printer sharing enabled
current folder shares = “My Documents”
laptop:
os = Vista Home Premium
connection = wireless connection
firewall = windows live onecare with file & printer sharing enabled
current folder shares = “Documents”, “Users” (default by Vista)
Vista Network and Sharing Center settings:
– private network configuration
– network discovery, file sharing on
– public folder sharing, printer sharing, password protected sharing, media sharing all off
Both computers have admin account with username X and password Y (same on both computers).
From Vista, I can see and access all XP shares.
From XP, I can see all Vista shares, but I can only access the “Users” folder, but not the “Documents” one I created (access denied error).
I enabled sharing of the “Documents” folder on Vista by right-clicking on the folder, selecting Sharing, Advanced Sharing, and checking the “Share this folder” box. Interesting side note, if I click on the Share… button in the main Sharing tab (launches Vista share wizard), but request to share seems to be ignored by Vista.
I have tried connecting them with both firewalls and anti-virus turned off, and with a guest account enabled on the Vista laptop. No success.
This thing is drive me crazy! Does anyone have any recommendations to help me solve this thing?
Thank you very much – any help is greatly appreciated!
tired and frustrated,
Joel
