XP Pro vs XP Home Edition

By galehickey2 ·
I have XP Pro on my pc with a 1.1 GHz processor and 384 MB of memory ABOUT 4 YEARS OLD. A friend
bought a new Dell with a 2.3 GHz processor and 512 MB of memory with XP Home Edition. I transferred the contents of a CD to my pc in about 3 minutes wheras it took my friend about 11 minutes. That was hard to believe. Can XP Pro be that much faster?

Three options I would say

1. Your CD-ROM and HD are on two seperate IDE controllers (HD on primary and CD on secondary), whilst your friends PC has them on one controller (primary; configured as master and slave)
2. There are errors detected on the controller, which causes the CD reading process to be slowed down enourmously
3. Other applications used the CD (these could be internal windows applications)

These are the most likely causes in my view, but there are probably millions of possible reasons for this.

Hope this helps
