    XP Profesional User Accounts

    Locked

    by roadrunnerchaser ·

I have 8 XP pro PC’s that have been running on a peer to peer network for some time. I now have a W2k Server(sp2) with AD w/integrated DNS/DHCP and SQL7.0, I want to join the XP machines to the Domain and still keep the settings and configs of the local user accounts. Is there a way to import/export user acounts from a WS to a Server and back?

I am able to add the computers to the OU in the DC of the server, but when I login with the Username/pw it creates a new folder (username.domain) and has all the vanilla settings. I have attempted to change the local path, but two errors occure, 1)cannot find path, 2)access denied. These two errors popup during logon to the WS-DC. And it creates a temp profile.

I am aware of the Network ID wizard on XP pro, joining the domain is not a problem. Creating Users is not a problem. I simply want the Users fo the local machines that my guys have tweeked to thier liking to be mirrored to the user accounts within the OU of the DC. To include their personal program settings like Outlook, web favorites, ect.

      Hi,

You can still copy user profiles under windows XP like you could under win2k… You want…

Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> System -> Advanced Tab -> User Profiles -> Settings

…and you’re in the right spot.

      Cheers,Tim.

Sounds good tim, I followed those directions on my XPpro here at home, and it looked real good. When I return to work this afternoon I will give it a shot, and at that point rate your answer.
