I am upgrading from Windows 98 to Windows XP professional. During the process the file ?windows\system32\hal.dll? was apparently deleted ? corrupted and I receive a message to reinstall the file.
I boot the computer with an A drive boot disc and the process then takes me to the Windows xp professional front page and allows me to enter my password.
It then shows the message ?Windows XP needs to be registered with Microsoft and just sits until I switch off the machine. How can I repair so that I can access my damn data?
