I have a e-machine that came with XP Home and I installed XP Professional over the Home now I'm having trouble with the computer. How can I delete the professional and go back to using the XP Home?
Thank You
Jim

No can do

by Xerxes612 In reply to More Info...

You can not uninstall a OS install and have the machine still work without allot of problems. Your best bet is to start over. Back-up your data on to cd or dvd or on to a new HD. Or, just install OS on a new HD and slave the old drive and you can pull the data off the old HD onto your new one once the OS is installed and then format the old drive and you have extra storage.

Rule of thumb - never upgrade operateing systems, the machine will never work to it's potential doing this. Start fresh everytime you install a new OS.

boot from resourse disc

by micwood46 In reply to No can do

most e-machines come with a resoure disc, you need to boot from go to non distructive format in the advance settings back up folder will be made automatic then format your computer to it's original state of purchase. i tried to partition my ex- wife's e-machine it would not let me install partition magic. she runs into a loy of problems with her's and it is not that old. professional is suppose to be the same just better. you probably just need to update bios check with the manufacture web site downloads and intel has chip sets that need to be installed good luck
