XP Profiles moved to new AD

I have a client that has around 50 machines connected to a Windows 2k AD system. I posted a proposal to rebuild the Windows 2000 AD database from scratch. The problem is the users NEED there profiles migrated.

Initially I was thinking copy profile locally then creating a user in the new domain by connecting the computer to this domain and copying the profile. But there are two problems I could see:
1) This process could take extremely long
2) Doesn’t always work.

Any ideas or utils to make life easier?
