XP REBOOTING ON STARTUP

i have installed and running win xp pro and have had no problems with it untill now. When the os is booting up it goes into checkdisc and then reboots, sometimes once, twice or even three times before i can login. I thought i had a bad boot sectoron my hard drive so i ghost imaged onto a new hard drive but the same problem occurs. Any ideas please…..
