When the os is booting up it goes into checkdisc and then reboots, sometimes once, twice or even three times before i can login. I thought i had a bad boot sectoron my hard drive so i ghost imaged onto a new hard drive but the same problem occurs. Any ideas please.....

You may be getting BSODs (Blue Screen of Death) and not realizing it. The next time you successfully boot into XP, go to Control Panel | System applet | Advanced tab | Startup and Recovery Settings - in the System Failure section, uncheck the box labeled "Automatically restart." This is set is enabled by default and causes the system to automatically reboot when a system STOP error occurs.

Once this setting is disabled, you will likelu see a BSOD at boot-up, but at least you will get some indication of what the problem is and can troubleshoot from there (or pass on the error message to us).

Hope this helps.
