A little more Information please will it try to boot and stops with a referance to HAL or does it not even count up the memory? How far is it getting and are you on a dual boot system? There are a lot of ways to fix a boot problem the best would be the recovery option Which you can get into if you have a win98 boot disk that will let you access your cd rom drives from a dos level…
when it gets through the bootup off of the boot diskette you can type the letter of your cd rom drive E assuming you have only one partition and one cd rom drive… D:\ will now be the virtual drive for the boot diskette. Type E: or what ever your cd rom drive letter is.[enter] then cd I386 [enter] then type winnt [enter]wait for it to go through the setup process and eventually you will see the recovery option. hit R then it will ask which to recover then it will ask for your administators password.. then you can type help for the commands to fix the boot fixboot I believe I always have to use the Help command to find out what it is called but that should get you to the point of booting up again… assuming you do not have a virus that has destroyed all the files on your hard drive.. Good luck
