A colleague was attempting to reinstall XP on his Dell 8400 desktop using the provided reinstallation CD, he formated all partitions on the hard drive and then installed. The installation seemed to work, but when the machine reboots, the XP bootscreen shows for half a second and then a blue screen shows up saying:
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer etc.
I tried the reinstall again but the same problem occurs. I have tried the dell resource CD (also included) but all it seems to do is run a diagnostic which returns no errors. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated and any other information needed just ask.

You probably need to provide SATA or some other drivers for your Hard disk. Press F6 during initial install and insert a floppy disk with the SATA drives on it.
If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended.
