I have previously posted a question regarding writing to a USB External HD hooked to a Network Server Drive (TrendNet TSU-200O) and no one seemed to have an answer. I will ask the question differently:
I bought the Network Sorage Drives to be used as a way of sharing my music library over my home LAN. I was able to format the USB HD as FAT32 per TrendNet instructions and then copied the library to the new drive and hooked it up to the TrendNet. The drive is a SimpleTech 250Gb drive.
The problem(question) is why am I able to write (rip music) to the drive when it is hooked on the loacl USB port on any of the PCs, but when it is on the Network Drive server I can only play music? If I try to copy a file or rip I get the error msg to check that the drive is write protected, etc.
Disk Manager shows it as a FAT32 (local). The TSU-200 has been set up to allow Write/Read. The only answer from TrendNet is that the drive must be formatted as NTSF as if it is FAT32 it should work.
I am wondering if there is something in Windows that rejects the write request because of the 80Gb limit of Microsoft for FAT32, even though the 250 Gb HD is formatted? This really doesn’t make sense because I can write locally.
